Phnom Penh is a Japanese instrumental band. Their first single “Joy” is a perfect mix between no wave and balearic disco. In the lineage of the Yellow Magic Orchestra, Phnom Penh cheerfully mixes synth arpeggiators, drum machines & live instruments. On the flipside, for your extra dancing pleasure Dr. Dunks aka Eric Duncan (Rub n Tug, Still Going) took the song into a psyche disco excursion, with an hyponotic bassline and some killer breaks.
Afro-Soul Holy Grail by the “Soul Brother from Benin“, featuring the famous “Vis à Vis” band from Ghana and recorded in Kumasi in 1979.Stanislas Tohon aka Papy Grande was born in the “Country of the kings” (Benin), in Abomey 1955. He’s “Chevalier de la legion d’honneur” in Benin for his brilliant musical career. The famous soul singer from Cotonou started his musical career at this age of 9, played with the greatest such as Gnonnas Pedro and recorded almost 35 albums. Influenced by the traditional “Tchingoume“ music , he invented his own rhythm called “Tchink Système”, a mix of soul and Beninese traditional rhythm . Dans le Tchink Système is an original 4 tracks album recorded in Ghana on 24 analog tracks channel with the incredible “Vis à Vis Band”, completed with the song “Africa“, a rare version of his first 7inch which he recorded a year before with “Les Satelites” from Cotonou. Sang in Fon, his native language from Benin, this album is a soulful call for peace and unity in Africa, a real definition of Afro Soul music! This extremely rare and obscure record is now remastered and strictly limited to 1000 copies.Enjoy!
Shaky Norman is a French musician who discovered the melodica through the music of Augustus Pablo. His influences range from classical to Jamaican music as well as punk, Celtic music, French traditional music and jazz. He has collaborated with Mad Professor in 1990 playing melodica on the album Psychedelic Dub.His new eponymous album features eight original creations. It is set up as a 32 minutes musical journey taking you through different atmospheres kept together as a whole. The collaboration with prestigious Jamaican musicians like the late Ronald Nambo Robinson on trombone, who played with Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Burning Spear, Sly & Robbie and so many others, and Glen Da Costa, the saxophonist of Bob Marley & the Wailers and Zap Pow, add an authentic depth to this album.
**** DIZONORD DEADSTOCK ****This 2014 deadstock is the first instalment of French label Prospector, a combination between San Proper's (Rush Hour, Perlon...) & Pit Spector's (Logistics, Minibar...) twisted minds, both long time Dizonord friends. This time Pit Spector invited his brother Ark (Perlon, Versatile...) with a brilliant remix by German expert LoSoul. Beautiful pressing and sleeve design by graffiti legend O'Clock. Also comes with a O'Clock poster inside.Conceiving a new concept that pulls together production and performance, Pit Spector threw a series of Prospector parties since 2014. For each soiree, he invites a guest artist to his studio to work on exclusive live shows for the club as well as on new music for the label.
This album is the result of a long personal journey and is conceived as a series of small tales. On stage or on record, the dreamlike world of Renart will take you away. Between solitary experimentation and acclaimed electronic performances, he keeps surprising us. Renart weaves melodic and melancholic atmospheres through tales which give free rein to our interior wanderings. At the crossroads of repetitive musics, 70’s psychedelic rock and modern techno, Renart creates powerful nagging rhythms and sharpens his future tracks in his misty castle of Malpertuis.
