Loya is a new project by French producer Sébastien Lejeune, which allows him to research his own cultural heritage, as a native of La Réunion.

For the past five years, Loya has been exploring the musical environment of the sister islands of the Mascarenes (Indian Ocean), breaking down the boundaries between electronic music and traditional music in a globalized world. Growing up in the great melting pot of La Reunion, Loya was exposed to a number of cultures and rhythms that fueled his curiosity.

Settling in metropolitan France in the mid-90s, Loya’s first encounter with electronic music happened upon discovering acts such as Autechre, Plaid and Boards of Canada. Soon, Loya was drawing from Intelligent Dance Music and bleep techno to build complex rhythm arrangements and ethereal melodies. Throughout this research, Loya gradually managed to tame the erratic nature of his machines to summon states of trance that reminded him of the music he grew up listening to as native of the Mascarene.

From this route through the meanders of contemporary electronic music, Loya developed a trademark sound based on triple time beats, pointillist sound design and a taste for experimentation. Such distinctive features can already be heard on his first self-produced album Eruption, released in 2014 and the EP Indian Ocean, released in 2016 on Mawimbi Records, although Corail is his most accomplished work and a testament of his clear talent.

Exploring the blue depths of the Indian Ocean with the fluency of a native, the ten compositions of Corail unfold like an archipelago. Showcasing the talents of traditional musicians such as Mauritius ravanne icon Menwar and Madagascan accordion master Régis Gizavo, Corail finds a fine balance between the soft, velvety ripples of modular synthesizers and the rawness of frantic percussion motifs and local field recordings.

** Not available for Italy & UK **With seven releases - including this one - on Schema Records and three - considering also the Cosmorama project - on Milano 2000, Stefano Tirone has tightened his collaboration with the Edizioni Ishtar group. He is today one of the label’s most popular artists, with more than 300.000 monthly listeners and millions of plays of his acclaimed hits on Spotify – more than 3 million overall for his recent digital singles “Blow My Mind” and “No Meio Do Samba”.His previous full-length Body & Soul shows influences from the early ’90s British acid jazz scene and his deep love for the ’70s soul, Brazilian and jazz music that constitute the basic foundations of S-Tone Inc. Here, instead of asking other artists to remix his tracks, Stefano has decided to do that himself, reworking in a nu-disco key the entire “Body & Soul” record, herein named “The Disco Experience”. The title and the graphic layout take us to a period in time between late ’70s and early ’80s when the artist as a teenager, completely absorbed by the sound of disco music, used to go to clubs and discotheques to listen and dance to those unmistakable sonic frequencies. In those years the American DJ Larry Levan and the Italian Mozart and Baldelli used to play their music in front of crowded disco halls, while record labels such as Prelude and Solar set the standards with artists such as D-Train, Sharon Redd, Whispers, Shalamar and their soulful vocals combined to strong basslines, funky guitars and uptempo rhythms. This is how “Body & Soul - The Disco Experience” was born, as a homage to the music that Stefano used to immerse in during those adventurous years, with a few exceptions: “No Meio Do Samba”, a tribute to the house sound of Frankie Knuckles in the early ’90s, and the two downbeat tracks “Flying Away”, with its essential R&B arrangement, and “Midnight Sun”, that keeps its cinematic mood but with a more funky attitude. “Odoya” is the only track remixed by The Invisible Session in a minimal spacey disco arrangement that fits perfectly with the overall sound of the album.
DOWDELIN explores as a tireless ever moving trailblazer a path where Creole jazz, electronic dancefloor sounds and Caribbean percussions come together to create a unique Future Kréol feeling. Dowdelin’s a Lyon-based trio exploring Afro-futurism in its Creolized form, plunging the traditions of the French West Indies into a great fountain of electronic youth glazed in jazz, in a way that few have so far. It all began, or not quite actually, when the singer Olivya contacted David Kiledjian (Fowatile). It is not yet the moment and Dawatile then doubts the relevance of a group with soul influences in English, with a non English-speaking singer... But they stay in touch, and a year later, an idea sprung: what if Olivya sang in Creole, her mother tongue. This is Dowdelin’s genesis: two individuals, constantly exchanging, in a quest for a Creole feeling chiseled by electronics.Dowdelin illustrates this art of blending: the search for the recognizable ancestral flavor in the moment, pairing it with an unusual influence, shaking everything to create the texture that will make the difference. Being embroidered in the bubbling afro-futuristic scene and confirming the return of Caribbean influences in French pop, Dowdelin becomes a trio when David thinks of an old fellow musician whom he has not met in ages: Raphael Philibert, Guadeloupian poly-instrumentalist omnipresent on the jazz scene, saxophonist for Sonny Troupé, but also a goldsmith in Afro-Cuban percussions and a tried Gwoka player. He is added to the sketched repertoire: it’s a match! Dowdelin transcends the exercise of style and complicity with two multi-instrumentalists, who by their experience, versatility and vision, open the field of possibilities to a singer speaking in her native language. The group brings to the forefront the notions of expression and freedom in music while steering clear of the fixed roles and the clichés.
ONIPA means ‘human’ in Akan, the ancient language of the Ashanti people of Ghana. It’s a message of connection through collaboration: from Ghana to London, our ancestors to our children, Onipa brings energy, groove, electronics, afrofuturism, dance and fire!Born out of deep collaboration between longtime friends KOG (Kweku of Ghana of KOG and the Zongo Brigade) and Tom Excell (MD, guitarist and writer of acclaimed jazz/ soul afrobeat pioneers Nubiyan Twist), the 4 piece live show features KOG on vocals, balafon and percussion, Tom Excell on guitar, percussion and electronics, Dwayne Kilvington (Wonky Logic) on synths and MPC and Finn Booth (Nubiyan Twist) on drums. It’s a fresh, raw, fiercely energetic new sound, fusing electronics and deep afro grooves. Think Konono no.1 meets Shangaan Electro, Songhoy Blues and Débruit….Having played their first show to 5000 people in Australia to commemorate Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday, and tearing the roof off The Great Escape in Brighton for their second, the project is picking up momentum rapidly, with a single launch booked at exciting new London venue Ghost Notes, followed up by an EP tour in August/September with shows across Europe including the main dance stage at Shambala Festival and London’s iconic Jazz Café.This release is first time collaboration between London label Wormfood and Paris-based Mawimbi, who have both been pushing their own brand of homegrown afro-electronic music, so it’s an absolutely natural partnership.

After the highly acclaimed "Kiss Of Kali" Mop Mop are back with Ritual Of The Savage, the third studio album, written, arranged and produced by Andrea Benini. Ritual Of The Savage contains twelve tracks of pure hypnotic Jazz, spiritual flavours, exotic Funk and Soul music influenced by Latin and African beats. Collaborations in the album include the amazing UK vocalist Miss Baby Sol (backing vocaling for the likes of Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone, Paloma Faith, Nate James), veteran Jazz crooner Alan Farrington, Down Beat critics poll winner Gianluca Petrella on trombone, the Italian vibraphone Star Pasquale Mirra, the Voodoo sound of Guglielmo Pagnozzi on clarinette and alto sax, percussionist Danilo Mineo and Andrea Benini's co-writer and arranger Alex Trebo on piano and keyboards. Ritual Of The Savage is an album with the philosophy of a soundtrack where the main character is a modern Savage who is searching for a perfect land where music is the only law. He starts his journey after "The Return Of The King", the album's opening track, going to an unknown "Destination" where Jazz meets Funk. Will the Savage be able to reach his goal? Nobody knows. But as the last album's track "Aria" suggests he will land in a space where everything is harmonious. The result is surely mindblowing with a flowing tracklist which sequels as if to tell a story. This album is made for the selective and open mainded music heads and dj's; vintage elements are mixed through a modern way of production and beats are generated by acoustic drums and analog drum machines. As Andrea Benini suggests on "Ritual Of The Savage"'s lyrics : "...Step back, burn all your money, give up to your power silks and chase real pleasure".
La Maison Venturi and Goldmann Sax teamed up to produce this French Modern Boogie & Ambient album by Boulevard Mélodie.Recorded under the ligurian moon, facing the Mediterranean sea, during the summer of 2016, with musicians and non-musicians, humans and animals, this album relates the friendly, odd and contemplative time they shared together: Odes to a wavy happiness, contemporary art incantations to the sea, rapped stories of loveless holidays and Gainsbourg like stories of truck accident. Also included, a balearic edit of “Basket Molle” by the upcoming edit wizard Unouzbeck.
This EP is a tribute to the fantastic world of Tempestaire, which calms thunderstorms, wind and other natural phenomena. Jean Epstein made this film 70 years ago in Brittany, where Ian Tocor was born."When the storm is unleashed, it is in our hearts that we worry, our dreams, our ghosts, our illusions, our utopias, our chimaeras are animated by the wind, a wind which sweeps the bodies like intoxicated through music.
