Back in 2007, Xavier Boyer, frontman of French indie maestros Tahiti 80, released his first solo LP Tutu To Tango under the “nom de plume” Axe Riverboy. He didn’t think it would take another 10 years for the follow-up but here it is and it was well worth the wait.

The title Some/Any/New, his tip of the cap to Todd Rundgren’s Something Anything album, reflects both the atmosphere and the process, Boyer crafted the new set playing everything, save a few overdubs recorded with collaborator Stéphane Laporte, using a laptop, an 8-track tape machine and a few cherished instruments (a groovebox, a guitalele and a casiotone). The album is awash with classic melodies, sweet Odessey & Oracle-esque vocals and the songs have a warm, organic glow, enhanced by some rough edges and little imperfections, happy accidents of the DIY nature of the recordings.

Xavier pieced together the album over quite a long period. The songs were written in different places, in different towns and houses. Given all of that, it is perhaps surprising that the finished record is so coherent, light-infused and optimistic. What is supremely evident is Xavier’s ability as a songwriter; here he again delivers a set of gorgeous, contemporary and immediate pop songs. From the exquisite harmonies and frayed electronics of “Cherry Cloud Panic” through to the down-tempo, deliciously melancholic track, “Longing/The International Merry-Go-Round” we are in the company of an artist, confident in his creative ability. This is a highly-enjoyable piece of work - as the man himself says “It’s “like opening a window to the world on a sunny day.”

First production of the label Sound Crack Records, “Organic Feeling (Tool Mix)” is a run through the jungle, savage, tribal, the raw nature animals of Mama earth bring the feeling of being in the middle of them, the TR08 add a kick to the efficient duo live drum Fleury Saint Denis. A real tool for house and techno DJ's to pump the energy to the top.On the B side comes “Before Midnight (Evolution Mix)”. This techno track is a trip in the urban jungle, when the city sounds are coming out of nowhere, the melody of the steel tongue drum live played by DJ GSD is bringing the human vibration to heal the soul. An old school touch of Detroit techno, mix with a meaningful speech of Kennedy will take you travelling through the evolution of mankind.

Ahead of its forthcoming compilation House Of Riviera, Mona Musique releases a sampler EP that contains three tracks selected by label manager Nick V, taken from the golden age of Italian House Music, two of which are exclusive to the EP. Side A is “I Have Got It” by Ricky Montanari and Davide Ruberto under the alias Riviera Traxx, a moniker shared with various other Riviera producers. Released in 1997, this is the only track that is out of the 1991/1993 time scale that the compilation focuses on, standing alone thanks to its tough hypnotic drum beat and diva vocal stabs that are very reminiscent of the Junior Vasquez NY Sound Factory era. This was initially featured on Riviera Traxx 4 in 1997, the fourth and final release of the cult “Riviera Traxx” series on legendary Italian label Irma records. On the B side are two cuts that are typical of the deep and emotional vibe of classic Riviera House productions of the early 90s. Firstly Ivan Iacobucci, Fabrizio Cini and Nicola Dragani deliver “Tribal Love” under the name of Anxious. Originally released in 1992 this was the B side cut of the Saxample EP, the first release of Hole records a label run by Ivan Iacobucci that enjoyed over 30 releases over the 10 following years. Subway Ground Master complete the release with the superb “Queensway” taken from their only ever release in 1992 on Calypso, a sub-label of Irma records

Folowing their 2015 release of That's All Right, an introduction to Arthur-Big Boy-Crudup, EALZ! Records is presenting the female side of the early Rock'n'Roll genesis. Sister Rosetta Tharpe was responsable for a tremondous amount of gospel & blues rockin' tunes beetween the 40's and the 60's.Her soul-infused singing, the fervor she preach & the way she played guitar influenced directly the path of Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley and many others. She was the favorite singer of Johnny Cash and Aretha Franklin and 15 years before Angus Young and Frank Zappa, she already played the emblematic Gibson model SG. The 12 tracks compiled on this brand new volume, include some never vinyl re-released material. This gatefold 10inch, handprint cover and beautifully remastered is about to give Sister Rosetta Tharpe, one of the first female rockstar of history, the consideration she deserve... and not only from above. Amen!
La Maison Venturi & Bazaar Records proudly present the first 12inch EP of the French duo Cee-O-Funk.Expect deviant house with boogie/funk touch and bizarre/weird sexy things. "T'as le cul qui dit oui" ("You got the ass that says yes"), is a sexy groove carried by a heady and sharp bassline to pay homage to the moving bodies on the dancefloor and the little music of their buttocks when the whole stuff moves to the sound of the beat. "Sex with the beat" is a joyful ode to love in all its forms, whether it is libertine or tidy or whatever. We all love without limit with or without music, but with music it's still better. "Naked on the dancefloor" looks like a huge electronic blues, a postpartum blues, with the memory of someone on their lips, inseparable from this feeling that one can have in a trance on the dancefloor. "Rock with U" is a repetitive, unifying, loving hymn ... let's do things together, forever.
